Import Settings:

If you are already using some SEO plugins or plugins by Yoast then you should import your settings to this plugin. It is simple to do, just go to SEO section click on Import & export under the left panel, and select the plugin from which you would like to import the settings. Make sure you have created the Backup of your database.


General Setting

Once you have installed and activated Yoast SEO plugin, you will get the SEO option in the admin panel. Click on it. The First option in the opening list will be General Settings. It includes the introduction tour and you can set the default settings from this page.

Company Info:

You need to put the information about your company under this tab. Put your website name, choose the option of a “Person” or the “Company” and you can also add the logo of your company.

Webmaster Tools:

Next tab will be Webmaster Tools. It allows you to keep an eye on the relevant search engines data. You need to submit your site to Google, Alexa, Yandex and Bing. Sign up for the Webmaster tools of these search engines and put the verification codes using the HTML tag in their respective field.


To ensure some security “Disable” the option of “Advanced part of the Yoast SEO meta box.” It helps you to prevent any changes made by the authors with index and redirects.

Titles and Metas:

This is a vital part of this plugin. You will find some tabs for different aspects under this option.


The first tab being the “General” again. Here you can Enable or Disable the option of “Force Rewrite Titles” depending on your requirement.

Here you can also choose the symbol for the title separator. Your chosen symbol will be displayed in between the Post titles and the Site Name.


Second Tab will be the Homepage. Here you can configure the settings for the Homepage title and Meta description. Here you can define the Title and the Description for the home page.

Post Types:

Here you can set your own post types for the SEO. By default, WordPress has several post types like post, page, revisions, attachment etc. It allows you to set the titles and meta description for the posts, pages, and other custom post types.

Here you get the options of Meta Robots, Date in the snippet preview and SEO meta box.

Meta Robots:

You can choose Index or Noindex to decide whether you want to index the post in the search engines or not.

Date in the snippet preview:

You can choose to “Show” or “Hide” the Date in the snippets.

SEO Meta box:

Here you can control if the Yoast content analysis checklist to be shown or not.


Next comes the Taxonomies tab. Here you can configure titles and meta for Categories, tags, custom taxonomies, and post format archives. You can again choose to “Index” or “Noindex” the Meta robots and “Show” or “Hide” the Yoast SEO meta box as per your needs.


On this tab, you have title and meta settings for author archives and date archives. Set the Author Archives option to “Disabled” and Meta Robots to “Noindex”, it will help you to prevent the duplicate content.


This is the last tab under Titles and Metas. Here you can make some other settings like disabling the use of meta keywords tag.

Social Settings:

Yoast SEO plugin now has the Google Knowledge Graph feature. Social settings help Google to learn about your profiles. Just go to the accounts tab and fill the URLs of your Social Media accounts in their respective fields.

In the other tabs, you can change the settings for social media accounts separately as per your choice.

XML Sitemaps:

Here you can enable the sitemap functionality and it will take care of the sitemap of your website.


Last comes the Advanced option. Here you can configure breadcrumbs, permalinks, and RSS feed related settings.
